Ему хотелось бы страдать, как страдают в подобной ситуации другие люди. Просто страдать. Тосковать по ней, рвать и опять склеивать её фотографии, доказывать себе, что она не стоит его, обзывать всякими словами, презирать её, обещать себе отомстить ей, колотить кулаками по столу, чувствовать себя брошенным, безмерно обиженным, униженным и растоптанным. Случайно находить что-нибудь связанное с нею и в бешенстве уничтожать, а на следующий день сожалеть, что ничего не осталось. Неустанно убеждать себя, что она не была и никогда не станет достойной его, что он заслуживает женщины в сто раз лучше.
Писать ей исполненные ненависти письма и не отправлять, звонить ей по ночам, не в силах выдавить из себя ни слова. Чувствовать боль, ненависть, оцепенелость. Или хотя бы напиваться до границы летаргии, которая приносит забвение, а утром просыпаться и смотреть на пустые бутылки у кровати. Обещать себе, что никогда ей не простишь, а через полчаса всё прощать. Каждый день забывать её и клясться, что завтра забудешь по-настоящему. Страстно желать видеть её, когда чувствуешь, до чего тебе плохо, и, чувствовуя себя еще хуже, мысленно проклинать себя за это желание.
Нет, он не ощущал ничего подобного. Ни тогда, ни тем более сейчас не мог возбудить в себе страдание. Он очень этого хочет. Однако не может. Так, словно это ему не дозволенно.
